<p dir="ltr">I personally wanted my son to go dressed as a character from a book he was familiar with and that was appropriate for his age. He's five. </p>
<p dir="ltr">He actually came up with the idea that he wanted to go as a skeleton and Funnybones is a popular book in our house so it was the perfect solution. </p>
<p dir="ltr">So... In a dark, dark house. On a dark, dark Thursday... we reused his skeleton costume from Halloween and made a mask from white card and that was that! Job's a good'un!</p>
<p dir="ltr">Cheap as chips and he was more than happy with the results! </p>

Really reminded me of how unfit I am compared to life pre-pregnancy!</p>
<p dir="ltr">There were some signs that Spring is on it's way with some eager flower shoots appearing through the grass. Think they're daffodils but I'm not good with plants!</p><p dir="ltr"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpctPWsCcFqw47WSgq7qXkjm-631HIlmp_xdCNrtiVIcRX0Y8wDetTejyry79T1vDGJdckf9PuxlJPUd_sKVvwmA8Ig5cU-us0bVxhwhKVLtN4f_aJr47L6FeAaxBQVOq1EASYoPeGOANn/s1600/20160128_100559.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: sans-serif; text-align: center; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpctPWsCcFqw47WSgq7qXkjm-631HIlmp_xdCNrtiVIcRX0Y8wDetTejyry79T1vDGJdckf9PuxlJPUd_sKVvwmA8Ig5cU-us0bVxhwhKVLtN4f_aJr47L6FeAaxBQVOq1EASYoPeGOANn/s640/20160128_100559.jpg"></a></p><p dir="ltr">Hopefully this will mean lots more walks in the sunshine to come! </p><p dir="ltr">Today's walk was a little impromptu but I have to admit, I really enjoyed it. The combination of mild winter sunshine after weeks of grey gloom and the buzz I felt after getting my sweat on (!) made me feel really good afterwards. And even inspired me to make a healthy homemade dinner for all the family...bonus!</p><p dir="ltr">It was a nice gentle start and I hope to be doing a lot more very soon!</p>Jillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09349618409641022781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6733328271063688450.post-29093192470300069662016-01-28T14:38:00.001+00:002016-01-28T14:56:33.528+00:003 for 2 on Toys at Boots, Includes Lego, Barbie, Playmobil etc.<p dir="ltr">This afternoon I called into the Trafford Centre, Manchester for a quick browse. Didn't see much in the sales as they are now starting to finish but one offer that did catch my eye was in Boots. 3 for 2 on toys. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Boots prices can be more expensive than other shops but don't forget if you have an Advantage Card you can collect a good rate of points that can be redeemed against future purchases. And...if you have a Boots Advantage Card and a smartphone, download their app from the app store and get even more offers and coupons!</p>
<p dir="ltr">For example I used one today which was '£5 off your next shop over £20'. So an even better buy when combined with the 3 for 2! The vouchers on the app can only be used in store and not online. But the 3 for 2 offer on toys is also online. </p><p dir="ltr">If you are a Parenting Club member you also get extra points if you are buying baby toys. Think they also were doing a promotion for Parenting Club members, 10 points per pound on luxury beauty products too if you're interested. Not sure when available until or if only in store, I just thought I was worth a mention. <br></p><p dir="ltr">For anyone who doesn't often shop at Boots, some of the larger stores stock brands like Lego, Playmobil, My Little Pony, Barbie as well as baby and toddler brands such as Vtech and Fisher Price. There's not a lot of choice but could be worth a look.</p><p dir="ltr">For example their small range of Lego Star Wars. </p><p dir="ltr"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQVKe0iyp8qNYeoxEbZBZcDMQypHQ_QyV2UbR2vXZK5AkRlnOEJ05rg60cmwxsaa_b0GwJxFk7TjgvdeWQfyQy6kBJnIqorkYFFE_-jmnusoY34hCwWQqabal1f73nxdc2sKxtDYNDs9-w/s1600/20160128_121413.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: sans-serif; text-align: center; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQVKe0iyp8qNYeoxEbZBZcDMQypHQ_QyV2UbR2vXZK5AkRlnOEJ05rg60cmwxsaa_b0GwJxFk7TjgvdeWQfyQy6kBJnIqorkYFFE_-jmnusoY34hCwWQqabal1f73nxdc2sKxtDYNDs9-w/s640/20160128_121413.jpg"></a></p><p dir="ltr">I love my Advantage Card and often save my points up to use on the 3 for 2 gifts and toys at Christmas time.<br></p><p dir="ltr">Another card scheme which I'm starting to like more and more is the 'My John Lewis' card. Which sends you vouchers for a free hot drink and cake. Just lovely on a busy shopping day!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzMhwvkhw6gXqYme1-_DhPLwuV4ocaoEQhi5gqHdFRSmImd5yfHNkh3EIosUlCHx80006GfNRUobLltHdNE24N97_0j3xpB325gEm2uoUYVELGwirBVzGfVGeRZGmLmJ72nFbKAcnXTsgh/s1600/IMG_20160128_125813.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzMhwvkhw6gXqYme1-_DhPLwuV4ocaoEQhi5gqHdFRSmImd5yfHNkh3EIosUlCHx80006GfNRUobLltHdNE24N97_0j3xpB325gEm2uoUYVELGwirBVzGfVGeRZGmLmJ72nFbKAcnXTsgh/s640/IMG_20160128_125813.jpg"> </a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkaP7a_zetjijRcGCwC4sVesjNlvCqBrlPl7ri3AZCHqFelPQuX8QmxOHEs7AxdeG3ovoK-6jjlL977wZst238u3DS-rFUcsFORJDMckJ_cCh5xxzs1CRECWea2cuD1LBcIjFIWP_2mSaT/s1600/20160128_123038.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkaP7a_zetjijRcGCwC4sVesjNlvCqBrlPl7ri3AZCHqFelPQuX8QmxOHEs7AxdeG3ovoK-6jjlL977wZst238u3DS-rFUcsFORJDMckJ_cCh5xxzs1CRECWea2cuD1LBcIjFIWP_2mSaT/s640/20160128_123038.jpg"> </a> </div>Jillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09349618409641022781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6733328271063688450.post-92216347563787174162016-01-26T18:13:00.000+00:002016-01-26T18:56:18.157+00:00Getting Back in Shape on a Budget <div dir="ltr">
Before I became pregnant with my second child I did lots of exercise. I went to the gym regularly where as well as using the gym equipment, I would also take part in various fitness classes and go swimming. As my pregnancy progressed I went to the gym less and less and by the time I was 6 months pregnant I decided it was a complete waste of money! </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I no longer felt motivated to go and I knew once baby was born I would probably have even less motivation for a while as well as no time whatsoever! I subsequently cancelled my membership. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div>
<div dir="ltr">
It was a hard decision as I really enjoyed going but there would be no point paying all that money every month for a walk on the treadmill, a couple of swims and the odd Zumba class. I would love to have been more motivated to keep up the gym-ing once baby was here, but I knew realistically it wasn't going to happen. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div>
<div dir="ltr">
The only opportunity I would have to go would be late in the evening and very early in the morning at the weekend. Neither of which I really fancied doing! My husband doesn't get home from work until 7pm and I don't have anyone who could regularly look after my baby daughter during the day. I wish I could be motivated enough to go at 9pm at night or 6am in the morning but I'm just not that person! I envy those who do put in the extra effort. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Not being able to justify paying a monthly fee for a gym I would hardly attend doesn't mean I've given up on getting back into shape, but what I need is a low cost, baby friendly option! So walking (quickly!) for now at least is my plan of action. With baby in the pram as well as my trusty Fitbit for company! And I'm not just talking about walking round the shops, I'm talking about proper walking in the great outdoors! </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I'm going to try (with the very best of intentions!) to keep a little journal here on the blog so I can hopefully motivate myself even more! I'll use the tag 'walking journal' for anyone who wants to read these posts. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
And...rather reluctantly...but for that added extra kick up the backside...I'm going to keep a note of my weight and hopefully weight loss in the posts.</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Urghhh...here goes...current weight 11st 3lbs! (I'm 5ft 6ins.) The heaviest I've been in my life (apart from when preggo!).</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaB-zyaN2YpIyucI23vkVgl1ueKheo6__hTA4DzIAg2ijmjYJOQ_lXGrjEaZ3lDMfkMnhyphenhyphenV6NXvvOp8PCWYC5vJt0lVtBp_JWZed_EYD0Uo4GJruOldaULn_ySGxVhzwx4_kyNz6eOaJN-/s1600/20160126_070438.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaB-zyaN2YpIyucI23vkVgl1ueKheo6__hTA4DzIAg2ijmjYJOQ_lXGrjEaZ3lDMfkMnhyphenhyphenV6NXvvOp8PCWYC5vJt0lVtBp_JWZed_EYD0Uo4GJruOldaULn_ySGxVhzwx4_kyNz6eOaJN-/s640/20160126_070438.jpg"></a></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I would so love to get back to the 9st I was pre-pregnancy but we'll see what happens... I'm now 34 and losing weight seems to get harder as I get older.</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I'm writing this for my benefit as much as anyone else's, but if you do have any suggestions for free or cheap exercises do leave me a comment, contact me on social media or email me.</div>

But a few weeks on and I've been pleasantly surprised by how many views my little blog has received. So if you are reading this...thank you...very big, thank you! </p>
<p dir="ltr">I wanted to write a post about why I was motivated to start this blog as I realised that when I first started I went straight in to posting about offers and nothing about why.</p>
<p dir="ltr">If you've read the about me page you'll already know I'm a married mum of two children, aged 5 and 6 months and I live in Greater Manchester, England. Oh...and I quite like shopping! </p>
<p dir="ltr">I like it so much that our tiny little house is starting to get very, very full! So I thought by starting a blog I could write about what great offers I come across instead of buying them...all! </p>
<p dir="ltr">Yes...ok...I might have a slight shopping problem...! But I'm working on it!</p>
<p dir="ltr">I can't avoid shopping completely so writing this blog is my attempt to curb my spending. It might seem counter intuitive but it's helping so far as it's making me more mindful about what I buy. If I can write about it without buying it I have time to go home and decide if I really want it. And if I decide I don't need that particular purchase in my life then I have a lovely reminder that I found it somewhere much cheaper than it should have been! And if it helps someone else out along the way, then even better!</p>
<p dir="ltr">Which leads me to another reason as to why I also started this blog. Because I wanted to tell someone...anyone!..about the offers I came across. As it's always nice to save some money especially if it's on things you were going to buy anyway. </p>
<p dir="ltr">My husband is sick of hearing me talk about what I offers I spotted on my latest trip to the shops! As are my close friends most of who don't yet have children, therefore couldn't care less about a half price box of Lego!</p>
<p dir="ltr">I can't tell my five year old son because a lot of what I buy is for him! And it's stashed in various nooks and crannies in our tiny little house waiting patiently for birthdays or Christmas' when they can once again see the light of day! </p>
<p dir="ltr">My mum, who would have been the person I would have called from the shop as soon as the offer was spotted, passed away nearly ten years ago. And although she probably wouldn't have been interested in what I was going on about she would have happily indulged me and listened to me go on and on about it! Gotta love mums! </p>
<p dir="ltr">I have to admit my mother-in-law is really lovely and we have a good gossip about what things we've seen on offer this week! But I don't want to bore her! </p>
<p dir="ltr">I also don't know the mums I encounter at the school gates well enough to talk about all the bargain spotting I've been doing! I don't want them to think I'm a cheapskate...or a compulsive shopper!</p>
<p dir="ltr">So instead of just talking to myself...which has recently become more and more frequent! I thought I'd write about it (whilst my baby girl naps), get it off my chest and give my inner voice some peace and quiet! </p>
<p dir="ltr">...And hopefully stop my house from collapsing under the weight of toys as well as giving the bank balance a chance to recover! Here's hoping! </p><p dir="ltr"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBMoK31De5mB_qirZmDvGTLBgqfggJIZyiABkbyozYyQlSQggmR5krHea5bi6CtMf7PWSfzRz1tDQAMcKc1-dE6AAIA8zY7oToO-1fZt6kmLx5I8V5B7Nf5WvrmR2hLQmYjn2uyRfY_RFv/s1600/Idea%252520note_20160126_104753_01-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: sans-serif; text-align: center; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBMoK31De5mB_qirZmDvGTLBgqfggJIZyiABkbyozYyQlSQggmR5krHea5bi6CtMf7PWSfzRz1tDQAMcKc1-dE6AAIA8zY7oToO-1fZt6kmLx5I8V5B7Nf5WvrmR2hLQmYjn2uyRfY_RFv/s640/Idea%252520note_20160126_104753_01-1.jpg"></a></p><p dir="ltr">Although bargains will probably be the focus (hence the blog title and me being an avid shopper n' all) I do hope to write about other things too!<br></p>

It often seems to be that when you searching for offers that are relevant to you they're few and far between, but other times when you just pop to the shop for some milk you see lots of interesting things reduced! </p>
<p dir="ltr">I called in to Tesco, Walkden, this morning and on their clearance aisle next to the toys they had some young children's board games reduced to clear. When I looked online they all seemed to have decent reviews.<br></p><p dir="ltr">Thinking ahead to half term in February, these cheapies could be a great way to pass a rainy afternoon! </p><p dir="ltr">They had various Spears Games reduced to clear like this Wobbly Chef for just £1.50.</p><p dir="ltr"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm92nKDRXY6reEoeMBPG8dAmftCohPRBkTH3PltJYW49Mxx-PCyB0QwpsrGL0uMYWxocF6qR9oHiE-mT0aCzfqWI_y5q41VMv1VW4b4LqBMMWkx6VdVvnQO9VkjdupgvTE7WQVDTWtdXxi/s1600/20160125_090731.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: sans-serif; text-align: center; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm92nKDRXY6reEoeMBPG8dAmftCohPRBkTH3PltJYW49Mxx-PCyB0QwpsrGL0uMYWxocF6qR9oHiE-mT0aCzfqWI_y5q41VMv1VW4b4LqBMMWkx6VdVvnQO9VkjdupgvTE7WQVDTWtdXxi/s640/20160125_090731.jpg"></a><br></p><p dir="ltr">They also had Don't Drop The Acorns for £1.75. While I was in there I noticed they still had some 2016 Annuals that they were selling off. All now just £1 and included Star Wars, Minecraft and My Little Pony. (Not pictured, they also had Turtles, Peppa Pig and I think a football one.)</div>

I also popped in to Sainsburys, Leigh, for a few groceries and still on my quest for the perfect (and great bargain!) birthday present I had a look at the toys.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
They had more Lego reduced to clear and included some popular sets. Even had my eye on a couple to buy as the gift I was looking for. One being the Scooby Doo Mystery Plane Adventure, 75901. £14.99 reduced from £19.99. Next best price I could find was £15.99 at Argos, but still full price in most shops. If my son hadn't already got it I probably would have picked one up for him and put it away for a present. </div>
<div dir="ltr">

<div dir="ltr">
They had also reduced Star Wars Series 2 Microfighter 75073 Vulture Droid to £6.74. They must be making way for series 3 arriving in shops soon!</div>

And although I didn't quite find what I was looking for I did see some other toys reduced that others might be interested in. </p><p dir="ltr">First up I saw this Fisher Price Little People musical pre-school for £19.99, I thought that was quite a good price but after Google-ing it I found it even cheaper at Tesco Direct and The Entertainer for £14.99! <p dir="ltr">The rumour was true! And it seemed everyone else had heard it too! When I got there around 1pm there were hoards of people grabbing reduced stock here there and everywhere! </p>
<p dir="ltr">The shelves were half empty, and impromptu aisles of plastic crates containing sale items could be found on the floor. The staff couldn't get new sale stock out quickly enough, as soon as they appeared with a new trolley people were starting to rummage through it before the wheels had stopped turning. </p>
<p dir="ltr">It was like a crazed jumble sale! Those in the know had got there early waiting for the store to open, ready to pounce on the best bargains. </p>
<p dir="ltr">I've never seen so many people carrying so much stuff. There were shoppers with four baskets each, full to the brim! And others leaving the store laden down with at least a dozen carrier bags...and no, I am not exaggerating! </p>
<p dir="ltr">The sale was 70% off, so there were some good buys to be had but the level of impulse or even panic buying suprised me. When I got there the sale mainly consised of leftover stock from Boots' Christmas gift selection. Bath and beauty gift sets, photo frames, celebrity perfumes as well as a few toys and a small selection of children's clothes.</p>
<p dir="ltr">The queues for the tills were horrendous, (fortunately I went to the photo counter where there were only a few people in front of me) but at least the long queues seemed to provide people with a cool-off period where they could re-evaluate what they'd hastily put into their baskets. I could see people looking through their acquisitions and asking themselves if they really wanted to buy what they had picked up. There was a plethora of items abandoned on the shelves lining the path to the tills after many last minute changes of heart!</p>
<p dir="ltr">It's easy to get caught up in the moment when everyone around you is shopping like there's no tomorrow! And at 70% I can understand why. But..even if it's in the sale, it's only a bargain if it's something you need or want. Otherwise it's just a heavily reduced mistake! It may just be a couple of quid, but why bother spending that couple of quid on something to put away in a cupboard if it's not something you are really going to use?</p>
<p dir="ltr">And if you buy half a dozen items just because they're cheap, you could have spent the best part of £20 before you know it. Just something to bear in mind...as well as remind myself! </p>
<p dir="ltr">I didn't escape without buying anything, I couldn't resist picking up these two Vtech Toot Toot Animals for my little girl for £2.10 each at Boots today (normally around £6 or £7). However, at one point I must admit I had five of them, all different, in my hand. I had to take a step back and tell myself 'she doesn't need five'. Just because they're on offer doesn't mean I should buy them all! My self discipline is improving! </p><p dir="ltr"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYvhak3A7osk36DzW8gdgXjDWXIY9qCPQ3UiFJdJWW_yNEPbq2QK_ddO0N3CzHXl-TsYe3ffzgIC7dNgtgSWNNI9sIEvrjx1DwbmjTen0OyXLTKNErkqX19zByIxETLgr_5yUACLCX2j1R/s1600/20160113_155113.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: sans-serif; text-align: center; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYvhak3A7osk36DzW8gdgXjDWXIY9qCPQ3UiFJdJWW_yNEPbq2QK_ddO0N3CzHXl-TsYe3ffzgIC7dNgtgSWNNI9sIEvrjx1DwbmjTen0OyXLTKNErkqX19zByIxETLgr_5yUACLCX2j1R/s640/20160113_155113.jpg"></a></p><p dir="ltr">I also got this Baylis & Harding beauticology gift set for £2.40 (originally £8) as had been looking for something like this for a while. I won't only be posting about Lego offers, I promise! I just happen to have come across quite a few good buys recently that I think other people may also be interested in.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Today I went to Manchester city centre and had to call into the Lego shop in the Arndale to pick up a Lego Architecture set for a birthday present. I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else and as I need it for the weekend I didn't have much time to shop around. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Although the set I went to buy wasn't on offer, there was an offer across the store (and also on-line) of a free Lego Disney Princess Olaf beach island polybag set (30397) if you spend over £25. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJbGjumSSQeJS1z8M8OPAu1ui02-FwpyULcmE0YGoGSd1BcvNL3DJYBzItOIa4s5PSW5E0k-oH3hNqRb9HOQiA4408ey8jUbsdqX2bNwHfYSFZBqkddUzkqR71pVbpuOyIF3ZyAXBQiovZ/s1600/20160113_144130.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJbGjumSSQeJS1z8M8OPAu1ui02-FwpyULcmE0YGoGSd1BcvNL3DJYBzItOIa4s5PSW5E0k-oH3hNqRb9HOQiA4408ey8jUbsdqX2bNwHfYSFZBqkddUzkqR71pVbpuOyIF3ZyAXBQiovZ/s640/20160113_144130.jpg" /></a></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Once again, they did have a small amount of Lego Chima sets that they were selling off like this 70227 King Crominus' Rescue for £48.99 instead of £69.99.</div>
<div dir="ltr">

<div dir="ltr">

<div dir="ltr">
Chima keyrings were also on the sale display. £2.09 reduced from £ 2.99.</div>

<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Also in the Arndale, but this time at the Entertainer toy shop, they had Lego Movie Batman and Super Angry Kitty Attack for £9 (was £12).</div>

For a self confessed shopaholic, it's a dangerous place to live near, but it's a great place to go shopping even if it's just of the window variety! With my New Year's resolve to save money I managed to show great restraint and only bought the book that I went for :).</p>
<p dir="ltr">I did still have a good browse though and apart from the perfume gift sets mentioned in the previous post there wasn't much to take my eye...except for a couple of Lego offers. (As you probably know by now, I have a great affection for Lego, especially if it's reduced!)</p>
<p dir="ltr">The first one were these Lego Simpsons series 2 Minifigures. £1.40 reduced to clear at John Lewis. Normally £2.49.</p><p dir="ltr"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM2HPfFxUCdt1huOtB532gJcuk8hSRSg8zEm8zuWLV2xeV0oLhQjKEX28eeEw0ul1oyQDNiVy5OA6p4MLliVJ8DQVthReXpFSsO6j9aTHokSRp1QwWDfg15FkzmK0aRMFqbjOXURrWt8ys/s1600/20160111_125547.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: sans-serif; text-align: center; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM2HPfFxUCdt1huOtB532gJcuk8hSRSg8zEm8zuWLV2xeV0oLhQjKEX28eeEw0ul1oyQDNiVy5OA6p4MLliVJ8DQVthReXpFSsO6j9aTHokSRp1QwWDfg15FkzmK0aRMFqbjOXURrWt8ys/s640/20160111_125547.jpg"></a></p><p dir="ltr">I also came across these Lego LED brick lights in Hamleys. £7 reduced from £11. I did do a quick online search to compare the price of these but couldn't find them apart from Ebay. Maybe they are discontinued old stock, but if anyone is looking for one, Hamleys, Trafford Centre had plenty.<br></p><p dir="ltr"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIp3z1VeLejq4gZ2dTqMLvcSr59GHsAmVImtwQNYwnXBOoNgrbcQ_w7pQnIqzFGPd661P9m7QEVeF2pxyJ-jd1lHuUrg2OL8SuusLLcU8UfR7EFiFTp9_mh9NTMT1lZ2ByGfpJjSznaPCt/s1600/20160111_130507.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: sans-serif; text-align: center; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIp3z1VeLejq4gZ2dTqMLvcSr59GHsAmVImtwQNYwnXBOoNgrbcQ_w7pQnIqzFGPd661P9m7QEVeF2pxyJ-jd1lHuUrg2OL8SuusLLcU8UfR7EFiFTp9_mh9NTMT1lZ2ByGfpJjSznaPCt/s640/20160111_130507.jpg"></a></p><p dir="ltr">Lastly in the Legoland shop over at Barton Square, they had Lego Turtles keyrings for £1.85. (£2.99 on Lego shop website.) They had all four turtle figures available.<br></p><p dir="ltr"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil_8o40aFlL5n4SjKItLrLNs5zY2WtQRdO5Xwid3y1CpCng55xAElDr1PTanpbjelRKZjCDFyxPYPT1utw-4hVnO9boU0g0OFrj7lAE3kMAL0yPm6ANxe6NT_3Ni2Jt-jQNDLMoIDtfOD1/s1600/20160111_133952.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: sans-serif; text-align: center; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil_8o40aFlL5n4SjKItLrLNs5zY2WtQRdO5Xwid3y1CpCng55xAElDr1PTanpbjelRKZjCDFyxPYPT1utw-4hVnO9boU0g0OFrj7lAE3kMAL0yPm6ANxe6NT_3Ni2Jt-jQNDLMoIDtfOD1/s640/20160111_133952.jpg"></a></p><p dir="ltr">And Lego Castle figure packs for £6.75. <p dir="ltr">The gift sets I've seen today at Debenhams and Boots (Trafford Centre, Manchester) have all worked out cheaper, some up to half price, than just buying the exact same perfume on its own. </p>
<p dir="ltr">And I'm not just talking about the cheap types once worn when a teenager or the celebrity flash in the pan ones either. Some classics and popular designer brands can be found at great prices too. </p>

It was screened as one of their Kids am (£1.99) films shown on weekends. </p>
<p dir="ltr">I only remember hearing about it briefly when it was first released at the cinema, and although my son did ask if we could go and watch it then, it didn't seem to have a very long run at the theatres and we never got around to going. </p>
<p dir="ltr">But at least now we had another opportunity to see it on the big screen. </p>
<p dir="ltr">As per the title, the film is about Peter Pan. Unlike previous films based on J.M. Barrie's classic book, Pan focuses on how, the young boy Peter, seemingly abandoned by his mother and left at a London orphanage for boys, fulfills his destiny to become Peter Pan.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Unknowing of his heritage, Peter longs to be reunited with his mother and only after being kidnapped from the boys' home by pirates and being taken to the far away mystical island of Neverland to work in the mines, does he start to uncover who he really is...</p>
<p dir="ltr">I'm not going to give any more away about the plot as not to spoil it for anyone!</p>
<p dir="ltr">Was it worth watching? Well, I suppose so...for £1.99! My five year old son was captivated by the action scenes and laughed at some of the humour so he enjoyed it. I thought it was an enjoyable enough film and visually very beautiful in places, but I can understand why it got, pardon the pun, 'panned' by some reviewers.</p>
<p dir="ltr">I enjoyed the film but probably wouldn't be in a rush to see it again. The film seemed a little confused in places, for example on arrival to Neverland being met with a crowd of pirates and miners singing Nirvana's “Smells Like Teen Spirit”! Wasn't sure what to make of that at all!</p>
<p dir="ltr">Also, the young James Hook, played by Garrett Hedlund, could have easily been mistaken for a knock off Indiana Jones. He did provide a bit of eye candy for the mums though :). And for the dads...well, there was a brief appearance from Cara Deleveigne. Don't want to be one sided!</p>
<p dir="ltr">There was also a scene which was very reminiscent of the Ewok Village in the trees from Return of the Jedi. Does anyone who's seen it agree?...probably just me!</p>
<p dir="ltr">It was nice to see Kathy Burke back on the screen as she played the role of the nun in charge of the home for boys. But for me, the highlight of the film was Smee, played by Adeel Akhtar (Gupta on The Angelos Epithemiou Show) although I think he should have had a bigger role.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Hugh Jackman played a pretty good baddie as Blackbeard. I wouldn't have guessed it was him as he looked so different. When I first saw the character though, I did think he might have taken fashion advice from Blackadder ;)</p>
<p dir="ltr">I did think that the boy who played Peter (Levi Miller) was very engaging and had the most lovely blue eyes and I look forward to seeing him in other things. </p><p dir="ltr"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiATiUBdkTKsLKa6mi_8rRHOV-a0QalmHY-8ddxjtCj6eeVIYmUzyWSOigtHmMrk3441rRyXWeJ7q9DFg4thzU6p5b8GaeAn-Xk2f3CiaFHQFL3WuaRsK0wiWt9grjWMmXBN7EQp-WIjR5A/s1600/20160110_141948.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: sans-serif; text-align: center; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiATiUBdkTKsLKa6mi_8rRHOV-a0QalmHY-8ddxjtCj6eeVIYmUzyWSOigtHmMrk3441rRyXWeJ7q9DFg4thzU6p5b8GaeAn-Xk2f3CiaFHQFL3WuaRsK0wiWt9grjWMmXBN7EQp-WIjR5A/s640/20160110_141948.jpg"></a></p><p dir="ltr">Have you seen it? <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div>Jillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09349618409641022781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6733328271063688450.post-26297286760848274772016-01-10T09:28:00.001+00:002016-01-10T14:21:36.526+00:00Vue Kids am - Saturday and Sunday Morning Cinema for £1.99<p dir="ltr">There are no lie ins on Sunday mornings now that we have young children. I can't remember what it's like to stay in bed past eight, and to get to that time is a very rare occurrence! </p>
<p dir="ltr">As well as just being up at ridiculously early o'clock, Sunday mornings for us now also involve some sort of activity, football, swimming, tennis...children's birthday parties! There's always something! </p>
<p dir="ltr">If we've been to an early morning sporting activity, we'll often follow up with a little trip to the cinema as a treat. </p>
<p dir="ltr">I cringe at the thought of paying full price at the cinema, especially when I take a peek into the future and imagine taking a family of four! </p>
<p dir="ltr">For now at least, my son is still young enough not to care about seeing the latest blockbuster. He thinks it wonderful when we go and watch<i> </i>anything on the big screen. Which makes Vue cinema's Kids am film showings perfect for us.</p>
<p dir="ltr">For anyone unfamiliar with Kids am at Vue, they show films that have been released a while ago for a reduced price. £1.99 per ticket, adult or child. The showings are on a Saturday and Sunday morning, 10am or 10.30am. They also run these showings in the school holidays which is great!</p>
<p dir="ltr">The films might not be brand new, but they're still popular with the kids. Today at Vue Horwich, Bolton, there are two films showing, Hotel Transalvania 2 and Pan. My son, having already seen Hotel Transalvania 2, asked to see Pan. And at £1.99 I'm happy to take him...and if need be, have a little snooze whilst he enjoys the film!</p><p dir="ltr"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN1A3HVRpBeML8w4L0gziXkrPTEoX5TnZkq1IaJZ0QUw5xu024oTx2Z5GpS2X7bXFCjGygtrLdUuB-jEy5Xgmvt0kSdJ1GdXwIDJGfwvFP9JjS7c74iVslXpjWRQHYAOqXIO8ph0dJkviE/s1600/20160110_141948.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: sans-serif; text-align: center; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN1A3HVRpBeML8w4L0gziXkrPTEoX5TnZkq1IaJZ0QUw5xu024oTx2Z5GpS2X7bXFCjGygtrLdUuB-jEy5Xgmvt0kSdJ1GdXwIDJGfwvFP9JjS7c74iVslXpjWRQHYAOqXIO8ph0dJkviE/s640/20160110_141948.jpg"></a><br></p><p dir="ltr"><span style="text-align: center;">Film review post to follow...</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div>Jillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09349618409641022781noreply@blogger.com0Horwich, Horwich53.598396 -2.554762tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6733328271063688450.post-44229950208105828982016-01-09T17:49:00.001+00:002016-01-09T17:57:26.237+00:00Thunderbirds 2016 Annual £1 at Sainsburys, Leigh<p dir="ltr">I've seen quite a few reduced children's 2016 annuals in the last week in various shops, but none that would have interested my 5 year old son.</p>

On a quick trip to Farnworth, Bolton, this morning, I popped in to Home Bargains. There were a few things that caught my eye. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
First were these Sesame Street, Furchester Hotel Elmo and Cookie Monster plush toys, only £1.99 each! For such popular characters I thought this was a great buy. Cookie Monster and Elmo have always been a favourite of young children and I can't see that changing anytime soon!</div>
<div dir="ltr">

<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
They also had some Furchester Hotel bath toys for £2.99.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">

<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Also in Home Bargains were some Collector Barbies. Although aimed at older children or the adult collector and kept on display, at these prices I'd be happy for my children to play with them.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
They had 2014 Holiday Barbie in a beautiful red dress for £9.99, rrp £39.99. And a Black Label Divergent Tris Barbie for £6.99.</div>

Today I popped into ASDA in Swinton, Greater Manchester, to pick up some school trousers that I'd ordered for my son via click and collect. For anyone who's wondered what ASDA school uniform is like I can recommend it. Well, at least the little boys trousers! They fit well and wash well, and considering how often they're worn and what they must go through in an average day of a five year old, for £3-£3.50, they wear very well! </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Whilst in there I had a little look down the toy aisle and at a great price were the Lego Star Wars Series 2 Microfighters. Each set seemed to be priced differently and the prices ranged from £5 to £6.73. Normally these are around £8 or £9.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
The Snowspeeder (75074) was the cheapest at £5 but out of the series 2 sets, this is one of my favourites! I think these are a great buy if you are going to any boy's birthday parties. Or a bargain Valentine's gift if your other half likes Star Wars. There might be more deals coming soon on these as series 3 will be out soon but at £5 these seem a good buy. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Once again, if you're buying these for your children keep the box and instructions as they're sure to retain some value if you ever want to sell them in the future.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9QDl4D0mPEPgrYhI8rVnwJrU9sIM0Cn7ibc4B_1CxdAe_6vmwa0k77FZTKGmKgAEIKrxhJZzbBK-DwhMXcr4NARvQVuiYZZk1PGrIgnYTXdBmbeSEfc0Qfrxm4QigjCuO4em3FZonQEza/s1600/20160107_134807.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9QDl4D0mPEPgrYhI8rVnwJrU9sIM0Cn7ibc4B_1CxdAe_6vmwa0k77FZTKGmKgAEIKrxhJZzbBK-DwhMXcr4NARvQVuiYZZk1PGrIgnYTXdBmbeSEfc0Qfrxm4QigjCuO4em3FZonQEza/s400/20160107_134807.jpg" width="400" /> </a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also in ASDA were these Lego Star Wars buildable Obi-Wan Kenobi figures for £ 12 reduced from £ 15.97. These don't appeal to me as much as the microfighters but thought they were still worth a mention. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Across the way at Home Bargains they had Lego luggage tags in various colours for 99p. These are great if you are planning a Lego themed birthday party soon. They could make great game prizes or you could even use them as party bag fillers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

An opportunity to get things in order and take control. Even if you've unsuccessfully tried in the past, New Year is always a time to try again. </p>
<p dir="ltr">I've got three things I would like to take control of, or do better at this year:</p>
<p dir="ltr">1. Try and be more organised, keep the house tidy and not put things off until the last minute. </p>
<p dir="ltr">2. Lose some weight and get back in shape! No fad diets for me though, it will all be down to sensible 'calorie cutback' and more exercise. </p>
<p dir="ltr">3. Be more aware of what I spend, keep to a budget and stash as much cash into savings as possible! </p>
<p dir="ltr">For me, numbers 1 and 3 are a little bit related. I need to make more of an effort to save so we can put that money towards a bigger house. The house that was the perfect size when it was just me and my husband is now full to bursting after the arrival of our two children! For such small people, the amount of 'stuff' they've accumulated has completely overwhelmed our lovely little house to the point of suffocation! Especially after Father Christmas has been...eek!</p>
<p dir="ltr">There's no room to move and even when I get the tidying bug there's nowhere to tidy anything away to! Well...except Ebay...hmmm! But that doesn't solve the problem that our growing children could do with more space.</p>
<p dir="ltr">I've been cutting back for a while now but even though I felt I was turning to cheaper brands and looking out for offers, when my credit card statement arrived each month it was always more than I wanted it to be! :(</p>
<p dir="ltr">Especially during November and December when the Christmas shopping took over...!</p>
<p dir="ltr">(Just for the record, I pay my credit card off in full each month to avoid any interest. I just prefer it over a debit card as I get to keep the cash in the bank longer therefore gaining interest and I get loyalty points when I spend on it.)</p>
<p dir="ltr">In order to gain back control, I've installed a spending tracker app on my phone and every time I spend anything I log it. This is set against a monthly budget that I've set myself, so I now have a very <i>CLEAR</i> idea of what I'm spending as the month goes on. Rather than waiting for the bill to arrive and thinking I'll try harder next month! </p>
<p dir="ltr">I've already found that keeping this record has influenced my purchases and has helped me cut back. Especially with small things. I've cut back on magazines, the odd lipstick or eyeshadow that happens to take my fancy, coffees when out and about as well as food on the go. It's surprising how quickly a few quid here or there can mount up! Now, I'll save these as treats towards the end of the month if I've still got money leftover from my monthly budget. </p>
<p dir="ltr">It's also made me question whether the things I want to buy are things we really need or not. Do I really need another pair of shoes, how much am I going to wear them and if I don't buy them will there be other shoes in the future (when I've got more disposable income!) that I'll probably like just as much! </p>
<p dir="ltr">Keeping a close eye on my spending has also made me more likely to return something I've bought if I can't quite justify it to myself once I've got my shopping home or had a night to sleep on it!</p>
<p dir="ltr">I'm not turning into to Scrooge, but I do want my spending habits to be a bit more considered. And how good would it feel at the end of the month if I did have enough left over for those shoes *wink*! What an incentive! Joking aside...I feel like this January is a chance to start a fresh, put things into perspective and enjoy the challenge of a more frugal year ahead! </p>
<p dir="ltr">Some other things I'll be looking to do over the next couple of weeks is review what's going straight out of my bank account, direct debits and the like, and see if there's anything I can cancel, switch or renegotiate. As well as making sure I've got the best bank account for my needs.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Note: The app I'm currently using is called Spending Tracker and was free to install. There are others available but this is the only one I've tried and so far it meets my needs perfectly and is easy to use. If you didn't want to use an app good old Excel or even pen and paper would work just fine! I just find a phone app really convenient especially when out and about. </p>

I'm trying (ver<i>y, very </i>hard!) to keep spending to a minimum this January and let my bank balance slowly recover after Christmas. Bit of a detox for the credit card! However I was lucky enough to receive a Debenhams gift card for Christmas so thought I'd check out their website while their January Blue Cross sale is still on. </div>
<div dir="ltr">

<div dir="ltr">
They have some cracking buys at the moment and these are my favourites:</div>
<div dir="ltr">
